Nature of Language & Language Acquisition introduces the scientific study of language, which includes theoretical concepts (e.g. structural linguistics, sociolinguistics, language development in first and second language acquisition) and application of linguistics in reading and writing development. Students develop a knowledge base in linguistics, phonemic awareness, and syntax, and apply it in real-world educational settings.
Class Reflection Ling 392 is a course that I am taking this semester. This class is very similar to Span 313 in the way we looked at topics like phonology, phonetics, semantics, syntax and pragmatics. The main difference was that instead of being in Spanish and focusing on the Spanish language, we are focusing on the English language. One really cool project that we did will do by the end of the semester is to be able to interview a non-native speaker of English to sort out some of the phonological examples within the interview.
