Course Description
In the Spanish course 345: Bilingualism in Spanish world I was able to put my skills into practice and that was through the different exercises and assignments that Dr. Gabriela Zapata showed us so we can improve our linguistic skills for example the main focus of this class was to investigate the dialects of the Spanish spoken in the Spanish- speaking world. For example I had the opportunity to investigate the Spanish spoken in the Monterey County and present it to class with a group of three people, in this project we talked about the different dialect that students speak in the Monterey County for example we talked about the difference between to look and to See, Code Switching, and the Spanish preterit. We also investigated the dialect spoken in Peru but our main focus was on Cusco, which our topic was on the Quechua dialect on how we can create an educational program for this population. Overall, this class also helped me prepare for the research project that covers the MLO 5: Cultural Internalization and Language Immersion. Since I did not study abroad I decide to stay and work on a research project in my local community. With all the support of Dr.Gabriela Zapata I was able to complete this requirement. This class also gave me a better understanding about the importance of language and motivates me to continue to discover more about the aspects of linguistics. My next step is to get a masters on linguistics and hopefully one day I can teach my students the importance of been a Linguistic person and to let them know that Linguistics persons are much needed in this world, since in our daily life we have to use Linguistics to communicate with people.
